Exploring Life Transitions through Art

Thinking about topics like death, grief, loss, and impermanence can be difficult, especially in death phobic cultures. We often lack the language to discuss these topics with one another. Art allows us to get out of our heads so that we can listen to our hearts and bodies. Free form art does not rely on a specific structure or set of materials and allows us to tap into unconscious associations which can take the place of words.

We are all artists whether we recognize it or identify as such. Each of us has ways of expressing ourselves that involve some kind of creativity. These workshops do not depend on any specific artistic skill set or level. The exploration takes place through the process of creation. How will your unique story be told through your interaction with the materials provided?

CURRENT COMMUNITY ART PROGRAMMING

EXPLORING GRIEF

A series of mixed media workshops exploring the different types of grief we all experience throughout our lives inspired by Francis Weller’s The Wild Edge of Sorrow. These workshops can be booked separately or as a series. An accompanying single or multi-session book discussion of The Wild Edge of Sorrow is also available.

In the Words of Others

I totally enjoy coming to Jackie’s workshops on exploring grief through art. After we introduce ourselves, Jackie reads poems about grief and survival. Then she joins us to create art using materials she has provided. I love the warmth of the group and being part of the conversation. Also, I’ve made some of my best art at these sessions.

PW, 2025

Jackie integrates creative arts practices on a monthly basis at my shop which draws a different crowd into the space and creates buzz around new ways of processing grief in a creative setting. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Jackie and helping her make her creative visions come to life by offering host space for these classes.
